The Archdiocese of Seattle has a long commitment to the protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults. St. John the Evangelist is committed to the actions taken to assure the safety of those who serve in our parishes, schools and agencies.
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People is a comprehensive set of procedures established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in June 2002 for addressing allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. The Charter also includes guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse. The The Archdiocese of Seattle established the Safe Environment Program in 2007 to assist the Archbishop in ensuring those commitments of safety are implemented while offering assistance to those who are suffering in the aftermath of abuse.
At St. John the Evangelist, any volunteer involved with youth (under age 18 years) or vulnerable adults must fulfill all the mandated requirements set forth in the Safe Environment Program before beginning their ministry. These requirements include:
The quick link to the right will take you directly to the appropriate website to accomplish each of these requirements. If you need assistance or have any questions, please click here to contact our Safe Environment coordinator, Deacon Adolfo Carabajal.
If you are a victim of child sexual abuse or suspect abuse by clergy or anyone working on behalf of the Church, you may report it to our Pastoral Outreach Coordinator at (800) 446-7762 or email hotline@seattlearch.org. All information received by the Pastoral Outreach Coordinator will be held in strictest confidence.
