Stewardship

A Way of Life

God Gives It All, And Then Calls Us to Share

Everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God.  Stewardship is the ability to share our gifts of life, time, talent and treasure, with no strings attached and no conditions.

A Christian Steward . . .

  • Receives God’s gifts gratefully
  • Cherishes and tends our gifts in a responsible, accountable manner
  • Shares them in justice and love with others
  • Returns them with increase to the Lord.

Five Principles of Stewardship Giving

  • Planned: We spend time in thought and prayer when deciding what to give, rather than merely giving what we happen to have left at the end of the week.
  • Proportionate: Our giving is proportionate to what God has given us. We give in proportion to the gifts we have received.
  • Sacrificial - We give back to God from our substance, rather than our abundance.
  • Grateful - Our offering is a grateful response to the immense love God has for us.
  • A Gift - What we give is a gift, given without reservation or condition.

“Make it your practice instead to store up heavenly treasure, which neither moths nor rust corrode nor thieves break in and steal. Remember, where your treasure is, there is your heart also.” Matthew 6:20,23

Catholic Collections

Throughout the year, parishioners at St. John the Evangelist are asked to support various Catholic charitable initiatives outside of our parish boundaries. Click here for a full calendar and explanation of those Custodial Collections.

How Much to Give

The various requests we receive throughout the year from many charities present the opportunity to plan our giving - to share the blessings God has given us, and experience the joy of sharing. We can begin by setting aside time to review our current personal giving. Offer a simple prayer asking for spiritual guidance, and click here for a worksheet to help you plan your annual giving.

Sharing Time and Talent

The sharing of time and talent is equally as important as treasure. St. John the Evangelist could not accomplish all that it does without the selfless volunteerism of its parishioners. Click here to see the various opportunities available to get involved at the parish.
