Funeral Mass and Burial

"Christians celebrate the funeral rites to offer worship, praise, and thanksgiving to God for the gift of a life which has now been returned to God, the author of life and the hope of the just."  (From the Order of Christian Funerals #5)

When a member of Christ’s Body dies, the faithful are called to a ministry of consolation to those who have suffered the loss of one whom they love, rooted in that hope that comes from faith in the saving death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Church provides specified liturgical rites and prayers to assist in this ministry of consolation.  To discuss the Catholic Funeral Rite, click here to email our pastor, Fr. Catholic Burial

Typically the Catholic funeral rite is followed by a rite to accompany the committal of remains at a cemetery or columbarium.  St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is blessed with the ministry of a Catholic Cemetery, located at NE 109th Street and NE Maitland Avenue.  Click here to link to our cemetery website.  Our cemetery offers a variety of committal options:  Click here for a complete description.  To discuss purchasing of a burial right, click here.
