Adult Faith Formation

Catholics gather publicly to be with our risen Savior.

When we worship, the Lord Himself is present!

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is a vibrant and growing family that wants to share with you the beautiful, historical and miraculous aspects of the Catholic Church. Our faith is the largest Christian family in the world founded by Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago when He said to Peter, the first Pope: "Thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"  (Matthew 16:8)

Whether you are of a different faith, a returning Catholic or even presently a non-religious person, we can provide compelling answers to your various questions. You won't find any pressure here, but only open arms to help guide you to the Lord. Want to know more?

A period of spiritual formation prior to receiving the Sacrament of Baptism as an adult is required.  This period of spiritual formation is accomplished by Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, commonly referred to as RCIA. RCIA is a weekly session of catechesis. Sponsors are strongly encouraged to attend the sessions with catechumens and candidates. In this way the sponsor and the catechumen/candidate can reinforce and support one another catechetically during the week.

After completing the process of formation the catechumens and candidates make a public "Profession of Faith" and receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and 1st Eucharist at the Easter Vigil Mass, children, young adults and seniors all together.

A copy of the original birth certificate is needed for the RCIA process along with a completed enrollment form; both may be brought to our parish office during normal office hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm).

There is no "fee" associated with RCIA.

If you have any questions or need help filing out these forms please don't hesitate to email or call Deacon Adolfo Carbajal at 360.573.3325, ext 110 or deacon_adolfo@stjohnvancouver.org.

RCIA meets Monday nights from 7 PM - 8:30 PM

RCIC INQUIRE FORM

A period of spiritual formation prior to receiving the Sacrament of Baptism is required for children that have attained the age of reason (i.e., children over the age of seven years). This period of spiritual formation is accomplished through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children, commonly referred to as RCIC. RCIC consists of weekly sessions of catechesis.

Parents/Adult Guardians are required to attend the session with their child/ren. Godparents (sponsors) may also attend the sessions. In this way parents and godparents can actively participate, reinforce and support the child/ren spiritually during the week. After completing the process of RCIC formation, your child/ren will receive the Sacrament of Baptism at the Easter Vigil Mass.

After this formation period, if your child has developed a cognitive understanding of Catholic prayers, basic Catholic doctrine and the Holy Eucharist, they may also receive 1st Communion at the same Mass.

A copy of the original birth certificate is needed for the RCIC process along with a completed enrollment form; both may be brought to our parish office during normal office hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm).

There is no "fee" associated with RCIC.

If you have any questions or need help filing out these forms please don't hesitate to email or call Deacon Adolfo Carbajal at 360.573.3325, ext 110 or deacon_adolfo@stjohnvancouver.org.
